Your first 15 minutes in VNCchat+

You will learn: how to send a direct message, start a room, share a file, and start a call. Time: about 15 minutes. Before you start: you are signed in to VNClagoon+ — see Sign in to VNClagoon+.

1. Open VNCchat+

Section titled “1. Open VNCchat+”
  1. In the VNClagoon+ launcher, select the chat+ tile. The product opens at https://vncchat.iacdev.vnc.de.
  2. The sidebar shows your conversations, and below them the People list.

2. Send a direct message

Section titled “2. Send a direct message”
  1. Under People, select a colleague. If you have no conversation with them yet, VNCchat+ creates one.
  2. Type a short message in the composer.
  3. Press Enter to send.

Checkpoint: Your message appears in the conversation. A single tick appears next to it when the server has stored it, and a second tick when your colleague has read it.

3. React and reply

Section titled “3. React and reply”
  1. Hover over your message. A row of quick reactions appears — 👍 ✅ ❤️ 😂 🎉.
  2. Select 👍. The reaction is added to the message.
  3. Open the message’s more options menu and choose Thread to answer in a side panel without filling the main conversation.

Checkpoint: The reaction shows under the message, and your thread reply appears in the thread panel.

4. Start a room

Section titled “4. Start a room”
  1. In the sidebar, select + New room.
  2. Enter a name, for example project-atlas.
  3. Leave Broadcast cleared for a normal room, or select it to make the room read-only for announcements.
  4. Select Create.

Checkpoint: The room appears in your sidebar. Select it and you see the room header with Search, Meet and Invite.

5. Share a file

Section titled “5. Share a file”
  1. Open a conversation.
  2. Drag a file onto the composer, or use the attach button.
  3. Wait for the upload to finish, then press Enter.

Checkpoint: The file appears as a card in the conversation and in the room’s Files tab.

6. Start a call

Section titled “6. Start a call”
  1. In the room header, select Meet; or open the Meeting menu at the top left and select New meeting….
  2. Allow camera and microphone access if your browser asks. A meeting pane opens on the right.
  3. In the meeting pane, select Invite to copy the join link for participants.
  4. Select Leave when you are done.
